Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend so far!

For Christmas, my wonderful Daddy got me, my mom and my sister

tickets to our local art museum to see the Rembrandt in America exhibit!

"Rembrandt in America is the largest collection of

Rembrandt paintings ever presented in an American

exhibition and the first major exhibition to explore in

depth the collecting history of Rembrandt paintings in America."

It was amazing!

I am NOT a big art buff,

but we knew this was a once in a lifetime type of event, so we all wanted to go!

Just learning about some of the history behind Rembrandt (1606-1669)

and how many of his pictures, including some of the ones on display are under

scrutiny since they can't be sure if he painted them or not, was really

fascinating! One of the theories is that Rembrandt did the faces

and hands on some of the ones in question

and then let his "staff" of painters, i.e. pupils, apprentices or

underlings complete the pictures.

One thing we did notice was his subjects got older as he got older.

But it was almost overwhelming being in the room with these paintings,

painted close to 400 years ago. The beauty and talent just left us breathless!

The detail of the fabric and the lace and the damask tone

on tone of the dress in this painting was

mind blowing. Yet some of the details could only be appreciated up close,

while others lost their perspective up close! A shine on a fingernail turned

out to just be a blob of white paint,

or a wrinkle in a forehead was just a grey squiggle or some paint scraped off!

Of course, as one lady said about one of the paintings, "Wow, she's ugly!"

If you have the chance to see this tour of paintings, do so!

You won't regret it! It is something I can cross off a bucket list I have not written yet!

Even though I don't have too much pink in all my holiday decor

....unless you count my flying pigs!

I have a few all over my tree!

And through my house! This is my newest one from Mom and Dad this year!

I love it since it is made from a vintage ham bag...LOL!

But all my Christmas decorating has been different

this year since hubby and I got rid of our huge entertainment center

that held a ton of our Christmas decorations!

But I am loving figuring out where to put things this year!

These have turned out to be my favorite!

All these little dangley legged guys from my mother in law!

She gives me a new one or two each year and this year

they have decided to live in my kitchen on top of my cabinets!
They look so fun amongst my tins!

But don't worry I still have my Annalee dolls all throughout!

And these two 18 inch Annalee dolls are my newest ones!

I love them!!

But then this one looking down from our ladder is pretty cute too!

The Mayonnasie Jar

When things in your life seem , almost too much to handle,

When 24 Hours in a day is not enough,

Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class

And had some items in front of him.

When the class began, wordlessly,

He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar

and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students, if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured

them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.

The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.

Of course, the sand filled up everything else..

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided,

'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things - family,

children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions -

Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else --The small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' He continued,

'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,

You will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So...

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Play With your children.

Take time to get medical checkups.

Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

'Take care of the golf balls first --

The things that really matter.

Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled..

'I'm glad you asked'.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,

there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.'

Where I have been

I have been at my son's school getting ready for

his HUGE Fall Frolic Fundraiser!

My sister's son is in 5th grade and his school does NOTHING like what

Kyle's school does!

We have a big silent auction, which is what all these baskets are for.

I have logged in over 60 hours of volunteer time

since the beginning of the school year which is NUTS!

Every night for the past few weeks til late!

There are raffle tickets that were sold and a live auction as well!

Only three or four of these baskets were left at the end of the night Friday night!

And we raised almost $30,000.00 for the school!

It is a public school, but a very small one (only 300 students)

so we don't get a lot of money from the state! We

are called a school of choice, so we had to apply to get into the

school and were so excited to get in! Like a college admission! LOL!

Every little bit helps when the school is so small!

Now he is off on fall break so Mom, Kyle and I are heading to Vermont

to visit family. Hubby is so excited for a week off!! hehehe!

The last weekend of August was a busy one around here!

Hurricane Irene was heading our way so the shop

had to be battened down and everything secured!

But I was busy with The Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic!

Saturday we got rained out (most of the course flooded) so the celebrities

all got to hang out at the hotel and go shopping around our wonderful city of Raleigh!

Then Sunday was one of the most beautiful days we have had in Raleigh in a long time!

This was Kyle's favorite celebrity photo!

But I think in years to come this one with Charles Barkley may rank higher!

Of course this one with Shaquille Oneal is awesome too!

Wow! Sorry! I did not mean to be gone so long!But we had a lot going on! A week of soccer camp! (mine is the little one on the left!)Then a beach vacation!

Undeniable adult truths 1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font. 5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories. 11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.

17. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

18. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

19. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

20. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

22. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

23. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.

24. The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important. Ladies.....Quit Laughing.

Ugh....My tests came back and I have to start walking and watching my cholesterol!!

Figures since I do so love to nibble on EVERYTHING!

But, you know it is worth it for this face...

I would do anything to keep this one happy!

He lost both his front teeth the week before school got out! No corn on the cob for him this summer! LOL! However, I do have a summer cold from this little man...

I have been sick as a dog this week!

Finally starting to feel better today (Friday) so it is off to work tomorrow!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!We cooked out down at the beach with my brother in law and his wife, plus my in-laws!

It was a lot of fun and the shrimp were AWESOME! This really is what I looked like when I got home though! My only contribution to PINK Saturday!! hehehe! My back is already peeling and I even sprayed on lots of sunscreen, so the sun was just HOT!

Then I finally had a Dr appt this week for regular check up....it's only been 15 years or so since I've had a full physical! Keep your fingers crossed that all my labs come back good!!

Nope, no pink in my back yard sea of dandelions...

so I have to share my mom's pretty roses again!

I did NOT get my mother's green thumb...but as you can see I can grow weeds! LOL!

Nor did I get my mom's love of ironing.

A few weeks ago I spent almost 8 hours ironing a HUGE pile of linen's for the shop! As you can see there were a lot of PINKS!!

This is about a quarter of what I ironed, but

I am not very good at ironing either! LOL!

If you live in NC or have looked at the news you have seen the houses in Raleigh that were damaged by all the severe storms Saturday night.

Our neighborhood was one of the ones hit pretty badly! There used to be a really long fence here.

Thankfully were are all safe but some of our neighbors have lost everything!

These are a few pictures from the neighborhood!

We are fine and now out helping to clean up the neighborhood!

I have been playing around the house today!So here is my mantel!

I should have taken a whole picture but hind sight is always 20/20 right?This was on the other end!Then, I am kinda sick of my hutch, plus it is a mess right now, so I really wanted a change!

When I say a mess, this was all on it or in it

Okay, even though I am not a very religious person,

I do know there is a plan for all of us out there.

It is not always clear, and may never be for some of us,but I got hit over the head with the "plan" for me the other day! I have been trying to figure out why I kinda fell into taking care of my Great Uncle, when I had not been that close to him. Yes, he was the fun Uncle who told you the off color jokes at the family gatherings at Christmas. And he never forgets to call on our wedding anniversary, but other than that I did not really talk to him all that much. He is after all my Great Uncle, my Grandfather's brother, and has other family who is closer to him. Now I have helped him put on undies, so we are much closer!! LOL! The reason I am in the position to help him is many fold. My mom is still not 100% even though she is doing so much better than she was last year at this time!! Thank you for all your thoughts over this past year. Her back is 99% better, but we still have the occasional cancer scare! So mom cannot help her Uncle, she has to take care of herself and not have the stress! Mom's cousin, who is really my Uncle's closest relative, and the one he relies on the most over the years, went through breast cancer 11 years ago herself, and has been fine up til now. She has not had the chance to come down and help, which was beginning to bug us, and now we know why. Her latest mammogram was not good...very not good. So she is the focus of her world right now, which is as it should be. And I can focus on my Great Uncle. It is all becoming clear now....

I need to make a change.

FOR ME!!

I have to quit letting everyone else pull my strings and do what I need to do!

I have to start eating better, (no this will not turn into a weight loss blog)

I have to start exercising again,

I have to get back to creating...(i have let that slip, with everything else on my plate)

I have to enjoy everything again, and not feel like

I am rushing around like a chicken with my head cut off!

Sorry! I have just been sleeping for the last few days!!

My Great Uncle is all tucked into a great retirement home

in VA now that he is very happy with.

We went up on Wednesday and got everything set with the help

from some wonderful people in VA!

Got home very late and crashed!

Went about my regular business on Thursday

and then Friday woke up with a stomach bug!

I do not wish that on ANYONE!

Poor Kyle was rubbing my back saying...

"It's okay Mommy, you'll feel better soon!"

Now I am all better and just tired!

Lots of paperwork and telephone calls are in my future now! So I am off to bed now and will see you all soon!!

It has been a long two weeks and we are not through yet!

We now have the unhappy task of moving my Uncle from the respite

facility where he is, to a long term facility that will be better for him in the long run. His back is now 100% but the muscles need to get back to snuff. He has told us that he no longer wishes to live alone, and is ready to move into a facility.We would love for it to be an assisted living spot, but we are afraid his mental stability has begun to go.

We will have to go up at least one time this week and I am sure

many times over the next few months until everything is settled.

He has lived in the same area for over 60 years

so we do not want to move him closer to us,

even though it would be easier.

He has so many friends where he is, it would just not be fair.

Wow! What a week!

We got my Great Uncle into a rehab facility, finally on Saturday!

He was pretty bad off, even though he kept telling us all he was fine!

We did not know how bad it was until a friend of his called us!

Due to a lack of mobility from a broken disk in his back, he was not eating or drinking much at all, since he couldn't move quickly to go to the restroom!! So he was really going downhill! Plus then add in malnutrition and yipes!

We got lots of stuff done on Thursday, Dr visits, lawyer visits, bank visits...you name it we did it! Then on Friday, things got so bad we headed to the ER for 6 LONG hours! Everything is fine now, and I head back tomorrow, for the day, for his procedure!

My recommendation to anyone with elderly family members,

1.Get a power of attorney in place now,both medical and financial,

in the event of emergency from stroke, or fall or whatever.

2.Get your name on HPAA paperwork so you can find out

any health information for your relative!

Talk the hard talk-

1.living will...i.e. do they want life saving measures

2.where is their regular will

3.funeral arraignments

4.financial information-5800.00 a month is a lot of money

and that is one of the cheaper places we have found!

All of these things may make you uncomfortable,

but you need to find out now before it is too late!

beyond his ability to cope (he is in his late 80's),

so my Mom and I have to head to VA to get some things in order!

my mom and I took part of back in September! My name was not mentioned but SuzAnna's Antiques was. And my bouquet was not credited to me, or anyone else, but elsewhere in the magazine the florist we worked with was credited with creating broach bouquets.

Okay, I promised some more pictures!

The windows have been washed and the dust mostly removed.

Here is the table, it is the first table Jason and I bought when we got married!

Of course I had to have some of my flying pigs on it! LOL! With a six year old, the tub underneath the table has our Wii stuff in it!

This chair is where Sky sleeps every day!

I don't think I will ever get rid of all the dog hair! LOL!

But this pillow is my favorite!

I have been hard at work around here!

Hubby got a wild hair this last week and decided he no longer liked our entertainment center hiding our back windows, like in this picture from my sister's baby shower last spring.

Now this is what my living room looks like!

All that beautiful sunshine! Now I am trying to figure out how to decorate without blocking the windows.I have a beautiful table there at the moment, but I need to put something on it without blocking them! With it being dark now, I can't take any pictures, but I will share some over the next few days...once I clean the windows and the blinds and the curtains...LOL! So I did not have a chance to take any Pink Pictures for Miss Beverly's Pink Saturday!

But maybe one of my pin ups will have to do! And maybe she will remind me to take some pictures for next week!!

Instead of the 1-3 inches of snow we were supposed to get, we got freezing rain! Just enough to make everything shut down around here,

but not enough to cause power to be out! So instead of thinking about the ick outside,

I will share some more of our Christmas pictures!Here is Kyle "helping" Jason put together one of his

Christmas toys on Christmas morning! Like I said Christmas Day Eve was spent at my parents house,

Mr and Mrs Claus...LOL!Poppy got both of the older boys a Christmas book,

John got a Pirate's Night Before Christmas,

and Kyle got Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer recorded by Poppy! Henry got this great sled from his WONDERFUL Aunt Jenny! LOL!And Santa managed to sneak some toys onto the back porch for all the boys! Did I mention my family goes nuts for Christmas!

My uncle was in town from Utah so we actually got a family picture with all of us! Hope your Christmas was as wonderful as ours!

Yay!! I found my camera cable!

I can finally show off some pictures of our Christmas!

Christmas Eve was at my in laws house this year (we switch each year),

but there was so much going on I never took out the camera.

Hopefully I can swipe some pictures from my Mother In Law!!

Then Christmas morning was at home, just the three of us! Santa left some glitter footprints that Kyle thought were VERY cool,

but I did not get any up close pictures since Sky dog thought they smelled good too!

Kyle was unbelievably calm Christmas morning. Getting one package from under the tree and making sure I or Jason had a present too! Then opening a present and making sure all the trash was in the garbage before getting another gift...it was almost weird!! LOL! I think he was still trying to be good since Santa had not left him the present he really wanted yet. The only problem was, Santa had to let Kyle know the ONLY thing he really asked for was not available yet for this Christmas!

Kyle loves playing Angry Birds on my phone and wanted these stuffed animals for Christmas, but they were all out by the time he told Santa that was what he wanted! Santa's elves could not make enough for everyone in time for Christmas ...kids will believe anything that sounds plausible! So these Angry Birds will be flying our way for Easter this year!! Tomorrow I will share some pictures of Christmas Day evening at my parents! Have a great Saturday!

Due to circumstances beyond my control....LOL. No, not too much turkey at Thanksgiving!

I can't wear my dress this Thursday night for the open house.

It's going to be a little too cold and I am going to have to be working more than I thought since one of our employees can't work!

PLUS...when I tried the dress on last night, the decolletage was a little lower than I remembered.

Which would be okay for going out to dinner with my hubby...but not for working at the shop! So anyways! Off to find another outfit!

This has been a fun week! Kyle and I spent most of Friday morning at the Doctor's office! My poor little guy has a wicked cough and since last year he had walking pneumonia, we are always a little more careful when he starts coughing badly! Luckily everything came in negative! I did not get a single shot of Kyle by himself!

But he was the scary little white mummy there!!

My nephew was AWESOME!! He is 10 today!! Woohoo!

And my other nephew toooo cute! This costume has gone through my older nephew, my son, two friends kids and now Mr Henry!! I'm gonna have to do a scrapbook page on just the costume with all the kids pictures...in my spare time!! LOL!

Hello again my long lost friends!

Kyle has been tracked out for fall break the last two weeks,

so I have not been on the computer much!

We have been out riding our bikes all over the place now

that the weather has turned cooler... and trust me,

there are no pictures as I am not that coordinated!!

Plus we had a minor emergency this week and had to go buy a new one of these....since we have a dog that looks just like this, and sheds like this as well!

There is no way we could go more than a day or two without a vaccuum!! We did manage to go get some pumpkins today! I wanna try one of these!! Aren't they fun!!??

I am off to work tomorrow,

so maybe I will see some of you at SuzAnna's while

Jason hangs out at the house with Kyle!

Then Thursday is Jason's birthday, so no more blogging until the weekend.

Many of you know that my mom is battling breast cancer and has been for the last 10 years. And so far so good! That is not the uplifting part! Since finding out she has cancer, mom has lost a job, married off a daughter, had a grandbaby, lost her father, moved three times, gone through my dad being laid off shortly before retirement, had another grandchild, had a daughter go through a divorce, had the same daughter get married and have another grandchild, and opened her own antiques shop, then almost died with a slipped disk in her back! AND unless you know her....you would not know she is sick! She does not let the cancer get her, she kicks cancer's butt and is an inspiration to all who know her! I have had such a busy week I have not had ANY time to blog!

I am hoping I am not jinxing myself by telling you all,
